A Season of Splendor
This year, Wooster Square witnessed an extraordinary bloom, one that will be etched in the annals of the Blossoms Blog. The cherry blossoms, in their ephemeral glory, reached a near-peak state that persisted for an unprecedented five days, from April 11th through the 15th, with the zenith of their beauty unfolding fully to peak on the 12th. This remarkable duration has not been observed in the thirteen years of this dedicated Photoblogumentary, making this season a record-breaker.
The Winds of Change
As if on cue, the 15th & 16th brought high winds, a harbinger of change, claiming a quarter of the delicate blossoms. The following day mirrored the loss, leaving the trees with a mere ten percent of their floral attire. The blossoms, fickle yet enchanting, succumbed to the inevitable cycle of nature, reminding us of the fleeting moments of beauty that life offers.
The Final Curtain
Today, the rain serves as a gentle farewell to the blossoms that have graced Wooster Square. Tomorrow’s photograph will likely capture a verdant landscape, a stark contrast to the pink panorama that recently dazzled onlookers. As the blossoms bow out, leaving behind green promises of growth and renewal, the blog prepares to document this transition, preserving the memory of a bloom that briefly turned Wooster Square into a canvas of living art.
The Festival was a huge success, over 10,000 people were able to enjoy the blossoms at near peak. Neighbors labored for a year to put on the event & had a meeting two nights after the Festival!
This is the kind of love and dedication of those who love Wooster Square, New Haven and Connecticut. I can't thank everyone enough who puts in the hours to make the Festival happen.
