DC Cherry Blossoms Peaked! What does that mean for Wooster Square?

See saw seasonal swings sans sunshine in our Sweet Sakura Square!

When I started this blog, I looked at when Washington DC's cherry blossoms peaked. I followed (& still do) every article on cherry blossoms that my friend google can find for me. Mind you, it was 2012 and the internet was kinda new. Washington DC didn't even have a real page yet for their blossoms. Then the social media craze took over.

What started as an afterthought became a university of learning. In fact, so much so that google's named its AI Bart, er, Bard, and can even have an opinion on The Wooster Square Blossom Blog. And they gave me exclusive access to Bard as beta. Maybe the number of eyeballs on my photos, blogger and such had something to do with it. But really?

I asked Bard, "What's the Wooster Square Blossom Blog?" Here's Bard's response:

"The Wooster Square Blossom Blog is a photoblog that documents the blooming of the cherry blossoms in Wooster Square, New Haven, Connecticut. The blog is written by Bart Connors Szczarba, who has been documenting the cherry blossoms in Wooster Square for over 10 years. The blog features beautiful photos of the cherry blossoms, as well as updates on the progress of the blooms and information about the history of the cherry trees in Wooster Square. The Wooster Square Blossom Blog is a popular destination for visitors to New Haven, and is a great way to learn more about the city's beautiful cherry blossoms."

Well, not a literary masterpiece but it's something. I'm sure that friend, neighbor and writer who did an article for Season's Magazine for Hearst papers will have some less plastic things to say about me, Bard, er Bart. That article comes out in April.

Back to DC and when will ours Cherry Blossoms Peak. All things being normal (which never happens), the Cherry Blossoms would Peak on April 12, that probably is a little soon.

From where we are right now I'd say pretty close. If we get warm and it sticks, they could peak Easter Sunday. If the weather stays chilly, were looking at the Weekend of the festival.

Once Cherry Blossoms peak, they can last 7-14 days but are largely at the mercy of the weather.

Take a look at some photos from a chilly spitting rain day yesterday followed by today, a sunny but chilly start.

And from this morning!

Pow! Right in the kisser!

Wooster Square Cherry Blossoms are still a ways off. I'm confident that they might be the best ever for our 50th Cherry Blossom Celebration Sunday, April 16, 2023 Noon to 4:30. Peak should be in about 16-21 days! Or not! The only way to know is to follow along!

Another update Friday!
