No Cold or snow is affecting all plants, not just our precious pink pretty Cherry Blossoms
Over the past 11 years I have been chronicling Wooster Square's Park lined with Cherry Trees. In that time we have had some wild weather, hurricanes, ice storms, blizzards just to name a few.
But I don't recall a winter quite like 2023. The temperatures aren't off the charts cold, but not particularly warm either. We've only had less than an inch of snow for the whole winter.
I know that the daffodils and tulips are way ahead of schedule. I saw them coming up January 27th. In a twist of fate, we had a one day cold snap. Those bulbs that pushed up early got a jolt, but seem to be surviving.
So I have been on high alert in search of green tips on our cherry blossoms. Green tips appear at the end of the dormant buds.
An example of green tips.
Once Green appears, the 6 stage process begins.
So far this year? No green tips. That would be absurd.
However, I think we are in uncharted territory this year. So the only way you are going to know when the Cherry Blossoms are in full bloom is to stay tuned!
