Washington DC has a Peak Bloom Date!

The recent cold snap has give us some hope that the Cherry Trees in Wooster Square might not be peaking at a record early date. However, the warm winter has 2023 blossoms on the fast track for an early Bloom!

How early?

Right now, some trees are getting a little green in the tips. However, it's not widespread. I do expect us to enter stage one, green tips very soon.

Then the fuse is lit!

Also, we get an assist from the National Cherry Blossom Festival, and all the expertise from the National Park Service. You see, they keep track too.

National Park Service: March 22 - 25

Washington Post: March 25 - 29

NBC Storm Team 4: March 15 - 20

"These are the current predictions, but it's not unusual for them to be revised as we get closer to peak bloom."

Don't you just love it? If it changes, well then they just change the date! And well yes, that is our job as Blossom Watchers. It's not just enough to predict, you need to know WHEN EXACLTY to head to see sweet sakura scenes!

Over the years I have helped fellow flower following folks find lodging, restaurants and the like! Most often I get asked I can only come this weekend or that weekend. Talk about pressure!

This year will prove to be tricky in Wooster Square. There's no doubt they're getting ready, but if they get too far along and there's another cold snap....bad.

Back to the DC predictions. I usually trust the NPS being that's their job. So if they peak on the 25th they could peak in Wooster Square April 10!! Or not.

The 50th Annual Wooster Square Cherry Blossom Celebration is Sunday, April 16 2023! Noon to 4:30.
