Happy New Year from World Famous, Historic Wooster Square!

The more things change,

the more things stay the same.

What a transition year 2023 was. We are all back to post pandemic some normalcy at home and work. January is usually a less busy time for Wooster Squarians. Students are back in school, the holidays are in the rear view and it's dark most all the time.

There is a beacon of hope for the year. Our perpetual blooming tree at Chapel and Academy in the park is blooming once again on New Years day. Neighbors all have a theory as to why it does bloom in the cold. Some guessed it was the sun hits it first to it's the warmest part of the park to it gets the most sun.

Perhaps there is a deeper meaning.

To some, the tree has a special meaning. The tree is a shining light on a life that was cut short, way before his time from an accidental overdose from fentanyl. A young man who was very much loved & had his whole life in front of him.

You can read about Cameron on a Facebook page "For Cameron" and his cause dedicated to helping people in need and reducing the stigma they suffer from.

The websites says:
"After Cameron lost his life, it became our mission to help others through law reform and education."

Since the tree was planted in Cameron's memory, it has bloomed faithfully around Thanksgiving, Christmas or New Years. Each time the family is reminded of their son and brings smiles with tears. The family is filled with joy as others delight in the tree blooming.

In fact, hearing it was blooming I went over to take some pictures and bumped into Cameron's mother. She thanked me for letting her know the tree was blooming. She beamed as onlookers were awed of the spectacle of the blooming cherry tree in winter & telling the story to those who were listening.

Take a look at some of the photos of the tree blooming and some from this brisk sunny morning!
