Go UCONN! Men and Women in the Final Four!
Our 15th year of Photoblogumentary Blossom Brilliance
Here’s the latest from our beloved World‑Famous, Historic Wooster Square — where the buds are bashful, the blossoms are being stubborn, and spring is taking the scenic route.
We’re still solidly in Stage One: Green Tips, with maybe a few ambitious overachievers flirting with Stage Two: Florets Visible. But let’s be honest — this is not a year where we can look to Washington, DC for guidance. They’re already past peak, and in a “normal” year (what even is that anymore?) we run about 16 days behind them.
DC hit peak poppage on March 26, just four days ago. If we followed the old math, that would put Wooster Square at peak around Saturday, April 11.
But that would also require our blossoms to go from green tips to full peak in two weeks.
Not. Going. To. Happen.
Why? Because unlike the rest of the country — which was busy breaking heat records — New England decided to cosplay as a Currier & Ives postcard. Bitter cold, snow cover, and a real winter slowed everything down. Our blossoms are waking up like teenagers on a Monday morning: slowly, reluctantly, and with attitude.
So how will you know when peak poppage is coming?
Simple.
