🌸 Wooster Square Blossom Blog — Herons, Florets & Easter Weekend Wonders 🌸
The Yellow‑Crowned Night Herons have officially returned to their Wooster Square nests — right on schedule, like the feathered celebrities they are. Their arrival always feels like the true opening bell of spring in our little Super Sakura Square.
Meanwhile, the blossoms themselves are stretching awake. We’ve reached Stage 3 — Extension of Florets, with a handful of enthusiastic juveniles already flirting with Stage 4. Not quite 70% of the trees are there yet, but the warm‑ish weather is nudging them along.
And of course, even the National Park Service reminds us that predicting peak bloom is “virtually impossible” until you’re within ten days.
Well… Wooster Square is about ten days out — as long as things stay the same.
And they never do.
That’s exactly why the Wooster Square Blossom Blog was born all those years ago: so nobody misses out on the magic, the mayhem, and the moment our neighborhood explodes into pink perfection. I keep track of the stages so you can plan your flower‑folly fun without the guesswork.
Lots of photos today from another chilly, quirky New Haven spring day — herons nesting, florets extending, and the Square slowly waking up.
Many thanks to our sponsor, Cheryl Szczarba, Realtor, who makes these blossom updates and photos possible.
