Wooster Square Marches into Spring! 2022 Cherry Blossomations!

 Blossomation: The process of predicting when Wooster Square's famed historic Cherry Trees are in full Bloom.

Here at the Wooster Square Blossom Blog, we've pioneered the art of predicting and showing you all along the whole blooming process.

For 10 straight years we have a 100% accuracy rate.*

Even last year, when I was laid up from foot and ankle reconstruction (blossom blogging is treacherous business), I had two Deputy Blossom Bloggers be my feet and eyes. Many thanks to Arpana Devershetty and Linda-Crystal Young for helping me keep the 10 year streak alive!

I followed up last fall by getting a total total shoulder replacement. Needless to say, 2021 can kiss my blossom blogging buns!

But 2022? Now here's a new year! AND, the Wooster Square Cherry Blossom Festival is back after a two year absence! 

Introducing the 47th Annual 

Cherry Blossom Celebration in

Wooster Square Park

What's different and why?

Here's the wording from the Festival Committee:

"We’re back!!!! 

It's that time of year again as plans are once again being made for the 47th Annual Cherry Blossom Celebration  in Wooster Square Park. The Celebration will look a little different this year in that we’re scaling back a bit and just having music and food vendors.  Also, the food trucks will be located on two blocked off streets surrounding the park  – Wooster Place and Academy Street.  Food carts will be located in the park.

The 2022 Festival is scheduled for Sunday, April 24, noon to 4:30 p.m. There is no rain date."

This year, to encourage social distancing and give people more room to picnic, there will be no art/crafts/vendors except food. There will be a band shell on the Wooster Place side of the park, instead of in the center of the park.

This will allow people to get food from trucks on Wooster Place and Academy Street and give them more room to spread out and enjoy the park, food and the music. Of course, you can always grab a pie! There will also be food carts inside the park.

Who doesn't like a Cherry Blossom Celebration?

Washington DC just announced it's Blossomation for when their Blossoms peak. What does that mean for Wooster Square's Cherry Blossoms?

Washing DC Parks service predicts peak to be on March 24th. Historically, our Cherry Blossoms peak about 16 days later. 

Last year we peaked on April 24th. Since the weather is all a moving target, I'm leaning towards peak around the 17th of April! But a freak cold snap or extended warm spell could move peak sooner or later.
