Wooster Square Delights!

The Cherry Blossoms have faded and been replaced by all green. Funny when you think of how warm it was (and how lucky we were), and now everything is all green but I'm back to wearing jeans and a coat.

Nonetheless, we had a spectacular year for the Cherry Blossoms. Everyone in the Square marveled at their sheer beauty and duration. In about a week, I will post two new you tube time lapse slideshows of the Cherry Blossoms. I started taking the photos March 19 and I think in a week we will have reached peak green poppadge!

We are still tracking cherry blossoms and stems into the house. In fact, I was amazed to find one in the shower! We still have the blossoms fresh in our memories but I did find one tree with a few blossoms burning brightly.

There is plenty of beauty all over the Square and I have evidence! Enjoy and have a great weekend.

krasivyi vishnevyi tsvet!

Yes! There still are some lingering Cherry Blossoms in the park! Of course I have the photographic proof. Unless my google translate let me down, krasivyi vishnevyi tsvet means: beautiful cherry blossoms! And, because there are quite a few people in Russia who follow the Wooster Square Blossom Blog I thought I should give them a neighborly Wooster Square recognition!!

Best to start at the beginning of the blog and work your way back if you are new, or have not had the time yet. Get some tissues ready because they won't be back until next year! Not lots of reading and lots of pictures! Stay tuned for this years time lapse of the blossoms. I have two different angles this year. We can relive them all over again!

Here are some photos I took on the way home from New Haven Fitness. Enjoy!

Just when you think the Park looks like this...
Or all green and cozy like this...

You still can find some cheerful little baby beauties...

But also one whole tree is in its Peak Poppadge!!
White wispy winning wowers!

Another Wooster Square Winner!

Neighbors in the Park have hives (bee that is), or
at least, that's the buzz.

But upon closer review, this one looks like an out of towner!

Lot's of other beauty in the Park!

Cherry Blossom Festival Huge Success!

Thanks to EVERYONE who came out to the Cherry Blossom Festival 2012. Festival Co-chairs, Charlie Murphy and Peter Webster, have set the bar real high for next year! Thanks to those that stopped by and said that they read the blog and enjoyed it.

Also, special thanks to my wife Cheryl who supported me throughout my CAW Show, and through getting all my photos ready for the Festival. AND, Cheryl and Arlene Szczarba (Realtors at Seabury Hill on Wooster Street)  have been the lead sponsor of the Festival for the past 4 years. Cheryl and her mom are very supportive of the city and the Arts! Their financial support, and the hard work of all the volunteers, made it one of the best attended in 26 years according to my neighbor and 1/3 park caretaker Alex.
And don't get me going about that great weather!

Thanks to everyone who organized, worked, entertained, emceed,  volunteered, vendors and artists. But most thanks to you who love Wooster Square as much as we do.

This blog will continue! Not everyday, but 2x a month or whenever I can share a photo or two! I also will have a 2012 slideshow with 2 angles. They will bloom before your eyes!

Peak looks like it was April 6 or 7. I have not dissected all the data yet. Plus we here in Wooster Square are pooped! Here is peak poppadge and today!

Yes Virginia, you will see Cherry Blossoms!

Cherry Blossoms are not the only attraction this weekend at the 39th Annual Cherry Blossom Festival Sunday here in Wooster Square. There will be food, entertainment, arts and crafts, a special kids section, special pet section and did I mention FOOD?

Did you see the weather report for Sunday? Sunny and 74 after a brief chance of showers in the morning. This could be the nicest, warmest weather we have had in years. Bring the family and come down to Wooster Square this Sunday. It is good fun put on by all of us neighbors right here.

But wait! Just when you think the Squirrels in Wooster Square are kissing these blossoms goodbye:
I found this tree walkin Chyna and Zippy this morning

It looks at first blush as if it is all leaves but it is a cherry tree that has not yet blossomed, but will on Saturday just for you!

More fireworks!

See you on Sunday! Come by and say hi!

Wooster Square Cherry Blossom Festival!

Now that our pink and white babies are all grown and are blowing the coup, we need to focus on what is important! Like Food and Entertainment! The Wooster Square Cherry Blossom Festival is just what the doctor ordered for a nice spring Sunday.

I have not consulted with our neighbor from Channel 8 Gil Simmons personally, but any rain predicted for Sunday will be before noon. The Festival runs from noon until 5:00. The will be a rain date of the following Sunday. My prediction is it will be a wonderful day to come enjoy the bands, try all the different foods and check out the arts and crafts.

This is a neighborhood party that gets everyone involved. Of course I will have photos so stop by and say hi!

Rather than show more blowing buds (and because it was raining when I was going out), here are a couple more from April 6. Can you believe these babies won't be back until next year? Oh the agony! There will be some blossoms out but this year is heading for the record books as one of the earliest, but one of the best. Thanks for sharing it with me! Enjoy and see you Sunday!

Gearing Up for the Festival

Each year everyone wonders why they don't have the Cherry Blossom Festival, say when perhaps the park is in all it's glory. However, you would need to be able to look into the future. But this year we were ever so close. The Festival is a mere 4 days away, but most but not all of the buds have taken to the winds. There is still some spectacular blossoms and blossom snow on the ground. Just in the last couple of days, it seems that the rest of the park has come alive. So Sunday, bring out the family and come to Wooster Square for a great Spring day. For a list of all weekend activities including a Friday night concert featuring world class neighborhood musicians,

I captured a couple of blossoms in their flight. Pretty fascinating. Picture is not real clear as they are blown up once I notice these alien ships passing me.

Blowing in the Wind

And wind there has been. Every gust scattering our pink and white petals all over. We have drifts of blossoms. Quite spectacular. We can deal with this wind. The Blossoms at peak poppadge were among the best of the last few years. We were lucky in the rain department too, probably why all these brush fires are popping up.

So on we go, from pink and white to green. Just 4 days ago this was the view on April 6:

Fleetingly Fickle little Flowers!

Before a couple of more photos, don't forget that this Sunday, April 15 is the Cherry Blossom Festival! Come down and join the fun for the whole family. Lot's of FOOD! Read more:

Blossoms in the Trees, Blossoms in the Air, Blossoms, Blossoms, EVERYWHERE!

I hope everyone had a nice and safe Passover and Easter. Today marks  25 days in a row I have been recording these beautiful Wooster Square Cherry Blossoms! Thanks for following along and I hope some of you were able to get down this weekend. Sunday was absolutely fantastic. There were hundreds of fellow blossom followers enjoying Easter Sunday in the Park.

But Oh boy! What a difference a day makes! The winds have really picked up with big gusts of over 30mph. Here is Hughes Place Sunday morning:
Compare this to Monday Morning
We lost a lot over Sunday night!

When Cheryl and I walked the dogs this morning I remarked about how kinda sad it is that the blossoms are fading away. Cheryl reminded me that behind those blossoms are green leaves and summer!  The Park is also on its last hurrah for blossoms. It has been such a great year, more pictures from yesterday and today....
